2009 ALL-GSC SOFTBALL TEAM AND AWARDS

Birmingham, AL-The conference office has announced the 2009 All-GSC Softball Team and award winners.

UAH'S LAWSON CAPTURES EAST PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Alabama-Huntsville third baseman Beth Lawson won the East Division Player of the Year Award. Lawson has been an offensive force all year long, hammering the opposition throughout the course of the season. Lawson hit .456 (2nd-GSC) and slugged a conference best 1.029 for the Chargers. The junior third sacker clubbed 22 homeruns (T-1st-GSC) while reaching nearly 58 percent of her at bats. She also knocked in 73 runs (2nd-GSC) on the year.

UAM'S RANDALL NAMED WEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Arkansas-Monticello shortstop Lindsey Randall became the second Cotton Blossoms player to be named West Division Player of the Year in the past three seasons. Randall set the tone for UAM on both sides of the game, hitting .381 (10th-GSC) while manning the shortstop position for Arkansas-Monticello. The senior was in the league Top Ten in runs (51), hits (74) and total bases (120). She also tied for the conference lead in doubles, with 18 two-baggers on the year.

VSU'S LITTLEFIELD AND UAM'S JACKSON EARN FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

Valdosta State shortstop Marti Littlefield was tabbed the 2009 East Division Freshman of the Year. Littlefield destroyed the GSC record for RBIs in a year, besting the previous record of 79 by 20. Littlefield tied for the league lead in homers (22) and had one of the best freshmen campaigns in conference history.

Arkansas-Monticello pitcher/first baseman Kayla Jackson wins the West Division award. Jackson did damage both in the circle and at the plate, helping push UAM to the second seed in the West. The freshmen had 47 runs batted in as a hitter while also topping the GSC in wins with 23. She won both a player and pitcher of the week award this season.

UWF'S LAFRANCE, UAM'S JACKSON GARNER PITCHER OF THE YEAR HONORS

West Florida's Jillian Lafrance and Arkansas-Monticello's Kayla Jackson earned East and West Division Pitcher of the Year honors, respectively.

Lafrance, a pitcher of the week winner this year, led the conference in innings pitched, throwing 204 frames for the Argonauts. She won 23 games (T-1st-GSC) and posted a 1.37 earned run average. The junior also punched out 200 batters

Jackson, also the West Division Freshman of the Year, is just the second player in GSC history to win both honors in the same year. Jackson also captured 23 victories, while throwing to the tune of a 1.18 ERA. She allowed just 34 earned runs on the campaign, holding down hitters to a .177 average against her.

COACH OF THE YEAR

UAH's Les Stuedeman is the East Division Coach of the Year for the second straight year and fifth time in her career. Stuedeman has pushed UAH to a 45-4 record and #1 ranking by the NFCA. The Chargers are also the top ranked team in the South Region.

The West Division honored UAM skipper Alvy Early, who improved from a fourth seed at the GSC Tournament in 2008 to a two seed this season. Arkansas-Monticello is 38-15 on the year, and has been ranked in the top ten of the South Region all throughout the season.
