Michael M. Banks

Michael M. Banks joined the GSC in September of 2005 as the league's first-ever Sports Information Assistant, serving as the primary media contact for men's and women's soccer and baseball. He was promoted to Assistant Sports Information Director in the Summer of 2006 and is entering his fourth year on the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee, serving as the South Region Chair and National Chair in 2010. In addition, Banks served on the CoSIDA Radio and Television Liaison Committee and is a member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) where he is currently a regional and national voter for Division II baseball.

Banks came to the Conference after serving as a student assistant for the University of Alabama Sports Information Department from 2001 to 2004. While at Alabama, he was the primary contact for women's tennis (2003-04), and the secondary contact for men's basketball. His basketball duties included traveling with the Crimson Tide to Seattle and Phoenix during the team's Elite Eight run in 2004 which also saw him work as the team's liaison to CBS. The Birmingham, Ala. native also served as the Media Room Moderator for the Tide's men's basketball squad from 2002 through 2004. His conference-level experience included assisting in numerous SEC Gymnastics, Football, Men's Basketball and Softball Championships from 2001-2004 along with the 2002 NCAA Gymnastics Regional and the 2003 and 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament First and Second Round games.

Banks also brings extensive writing credentials to the GSC after writing for the Crimson Connection from 1999-2001, where he published stories with no previous formal writing experience. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Alabama where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Information Sciences, specializing in Telecommunications and Film. Banks is married to the former Alicia Dickie of Anniston, Ala. The couple has a beloved dog, Dre' and are expecting their first child in September 2010.
