| VSU's Curnell is Player of the Year |
Birmingham, AL-The Gulf South Conference placed three players on the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-South Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
For the second year in a row, the GSC provided the Region Player of the Year. Valdosta State forward Tyrone Curnell achieved the highest point total and was joined on the First Team by North Alabama guard Jared Strode.
Curnell was also one of two returnees to the First Team. The senior led VSU to a share of the GSC East Division Crown and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The GSC East Division Player of the Year enters this weekend's action second in the Conference in steals (tied, 1.86), fourth in scoring (17.7) and rebounds (8.6) and sixth field goal percentage (.494-168-340).
Strode was a two-time GSC Player of the Week and finished No. 1 in the league in scoring (19.8), fourth in field goal percentage (.502-195-391), seventh in steals (1.79) and 10th in rebounding (6.4).
Arkansas Tech guard Brandon Friedel completes the GSC contingent with Second Team laurels. The West Division Player of the Year helped lead the Wonder Boys to their second consecutive Conference Championship. The senior currently ranks fourth in the league in three-point percentage (.425-91-214) eighth in scoring (15.1) and 10th in field goal percentage (.436-151-346).
