| Valdosta State tops Rollins, 71-58 |
The streak continued for the GSC when Valdosta State collected its first-ever NCAA Men's Basketball South Regional Title.
No. 6 seed VSU moved on to next week's Elite Eight thanks to a 71-58 victory over No. 2 seed Rollins at Tucker Coliseum on the campus of Arkansas Tech University.
The Blazers' victory marked the fifth consecutive Regional Title for the Gulf South Conference and was Valdosta State's first-ever in its second Regional Final (2002). VSU's win also marked the third straight season that the GSC champion failed to move on to the Elite Eight.
VSU took a 2-0 lead 20 seconds into the game and held the lead until RC grabbed a one-point edge at 12:37. The Blazers took over from there thanks to a 10-0 run in the following minute of action. They iced the game down the stretch, nailing 11 free throws in the final two minutes.
Valdosta State forward Marvin Dibble tossed in a game-high 18 points, while Kevin Harris came off the bench to add 11 points.
VSU returns to the court on March 24 when it faces Atlantic Region Champion Indiana (PA) at 2:30 pm (Eastern) at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
